Giving Thanks in a Thankless World

  • by Rob Crenshaw

This time of year is full of talk about giving thanks. And although I am sure there are many people who are truly thankful for a variety of things in their life, what does the whole picture of their life look like? What does the whole picture of your life, or my life look like in the midst of us saying what we are thankful for?

Something “puzzling” going down tonight @rmc_hsm Check. It. Out. Getting to do one of the things we love to do most. How relationships relate to #TheWholeProject #AllTheThings #stumin #youthmin @rob.crenshaw @jenna.crenshaw
Not a typical post from us... Do you know someone who suffers from depression? Or may be pondering suicide? Are your days a heavy burden of struggle and you can’t see past? Where is the joy and the peace? . . This repost is from Rob this week. Satan tried hard, but God prevails. Always. The link to the blog is in his personal bio @rob.crenshaw Please read and share. . . . #Repost with @get_repost ・・・ “Why I suck as a man I know it is the enemy that is speaking in my ear and I have a choice to listen or not. My flesh wants to jump in and agree with everything. My spirit knows better. Today, my flesh won. I doubted everything. I was done. I was done with caring about anything. If I could just go work all the time and provide for my family so they could continue living, then great. I was there. I didn’t care about my health. I didn’t care about exercising, my diet, my life. I mean, come on! I say I love my wife, but how am I showing that? I say I love my kids, but am I doing anything that shows that? Sure, they may say they know I love them, but do they really know that? Do they feel that? Do they see that? I doubt it. I say I want to be healthy, but am I actively doing anything about it? I say I love cycling, but I am not doing it. I say I love soccer, but I am not doing anything to be involved in it, or to get my daughter, who says she would like it, in to it. As I see all of this, I wonder if my wife is in love with the idea of me but not the real me. I wonder if my kids just love the concept of their dad, and not me. I wonder why I get promoted at work. Why am I chosen to lead anything? I suck at being a husband, a father, a man… a person. What’s the point? . . That’s exactly what I was feeling a day last week. It wasn’t even a “bad” day. Just a normal day where I had been knocked off just enough because of a little frustration.” . . “Live Your Truth” - This pic is of a sign I saw today while stopping at a well known store for some supplies. But what is my truth vs. your truth? Does one of us have a better, more true truth? There’s a song by LeCrae called “Truth” from his 2008 Rebel album. Part of the song has these lyrics… “If what's true for you is true for you and what's true for me is true for me, what if my truth says yours is a lie? Is it still true?” There can’t be more than one way that is true. We have to have one solid true that doesn’t allow you or me to trump each other on life and godliness. Thankfully, we do have that source of Truth. Jesus is truth. In fact, He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. That means what He says goes. In our daily life "projects,” those things that God has us each individually working on, we have to work according to what the plans say. (As in a building project.) If you go against the prescribed plans, there will either be faulty work done, fines to pay (consequences), or work that has been done your own way will have to be undone and redone according to plan. Even if what you do is good and seemingly right. We can do “good” things, but it may not be the good work that God is desiring to accomplish. What area in your life does God want you to give to Him today? Are you willing to let something go? Maybe it’s a behavior, a way of thinking, actions/re-actions, or worldly point of view that you want to be good and “true”, but it isn’t His way. #truth #TheWholeProject #ifightforpurity #newcreation
“Before you can even start to head down the five year or 10 year road, you have to start where you are right now.
But do you truly know who you are?” ••••• This week’s blog project is dealing with knowing where we are so we can have vision of where we are going. It’s almost impossible to change your life in the future, if the actions and steps you are taking today are leading you in a path towards change. When you restore a home, you have to get rid of the rotten, broken parts and replace it with newer, working ones. And even after the restoration, there is maintenance. The same idea goes in to you being restored. It’s called sanctification. The parts that aren’t for God will be removed and replaced with pure parts. It’s an on going process. Join us as we walk through #thewholeproject where we focus on you. Everyone is broke and in need of restoration. What is one area in your life that needs restored? #restored #life
A house will only last for so long before it begins to deteriorate. Even after an extreme overhaul, weather, time, and it’s residents cause damage and aging. In our faith, we have the same struggle. We repair and become refined. But as time, life struggles and complacency seep in, the mess returns. Like this house, the brokenness could all be on the inside while the outside of the structure may still look amazing and desirable. Oh but the inside... ••••• Our hearts grow dim of the flame of the Holy Spirit and though we can keep the outside looking whole and finished, our inside needs healing. •••• It’s a continual battle and a changing journey throughout life. And different for each one of us. Let’s do the work together! We don’t have to walk alone and we don’t have to pretend we are whole. All of us are broken. •••• Blog link in bio. #thewholeproject #brokenness #healing #oneprojectatatime #Godcan
